Why Do I Feel Different, or Like I Don’t Fully Belong?

Feeling different or out of place often isn’t a flaw, but a sign of deeper questioning. In this article, I share my personal journey of identity, belonging, and exploration beyond roles and routines, and how recognising ourselves as more than one life or one identity can bring peace, self-acceptance, and a lighter way of living.

This question is very dear to my heart, because it was the starting point of my own journey.

From a very young age, I questioned life a lot. I couldn’t understand the purpose of it, or at least the way it was presented. Waking up early every morning, going to work, coming back home, taking care of the kids, cooking dinner, watching TV, going to bed, and starting all over again the next day. It felt mechanical. Like a routine without depth or meaning. I remember feeling as if I was a robot, moving through a system that didn’t speak to something essential inside me.

Because I couldn’t understand this way of living, I never really adhered to it. I didn’t follow that road. Instead, I travelled. I worked in many different places. Sometimes I lived in a car. I jumped from one job to another, always working, always resourceful, yet never feeling tied up. When I had enough, I could leave. That freedom mattered deeply to me.

When I moved to New Zealand, something shifted. I met my husband, and with that came grounding, stability, roots. And at the same time, deeper questions surfaced. What is my purpose? What am I meant to do here? Why do I feel different? Why does life feel bigger than this role, this identity, this character called Lilly?

Since childhood, I had vivid dreams of different lives and different bodies. I was drawn to science fiction, to other worlds, to extraterrestrial life, with a quiet curiosity and a deep sense that existence was far wider than what we usually talk about.

At one point, I did a QHHT session for myself. Whether what emerged was imagination or something else was not the most important part. What mattered was the realisation that followed. I felt, very clearly, that I was much more than this physical body and much more than this single life. That insight marked a turning point.

What also became clear is that even though different lives or forms could be experienced, none of them felt like a place of origin or a home. There wasn’t a specific location or identity to attach to. Instead, there was a strong understanding that experience itself was the point.

I came to see that we don’t come from somewhere specific. We come from oneness. Beyond shape, beyond form, beyond planets or identities. Some lives resonate more strongly than others, and some memories come forward more easily, yet they are expressions rather than definitions. Each one is an experience, a way for consciousness to explore itself.

Going through this process allowed me to accept something fundamental about myself. Living differently was valid. Creativity, movement, freedom, exploration had their own intelligence. I didn’t need to follow the path society was encouraging me to take in order to live a meaningful life.

Through this inner exploration, I met myself more deeply. Meeting my higher self wasn’t about becoming special or separate. It was about recognising that every experience, every body, every life carries a lesson. Each one explores a different facet of existence, a different aspect of all that is.

That understanding brought a lot of peace.

When people come to me with a sense of feeling different or out of place, I see a person who is questioning beyond the surface, someone who senses more than roles, routines, and expectations.

That feeling of not fully belonging often opens the door to deeper self-acceptance. It allows space to live in a way that feels honest, aligned, and true to one’s inner rhythm. Life often becomes lighter.

If you feel drawn to explore some of your own experiences beyond this lifetime, I also offer BQH sessions. These sessions are ideal for exploration. They can bring forward memories, symbols, or insights from other times that sometimes reconnect people with knowledge they already carry, knowledge that can be applied very practically in this life.

When the feeling of “not belonging” becomes an invitation

If you’ve carried a sense of being different, out of place, or not fully defined by the roles and routines of everyday life, you’re not alone. Often, this feeling isn’t something to correct, but something to understand.

I offer holistic hypnotherapy and BQH (Beyond Quantum Healing) sessions for people who feel drawn to explore their inner experiences beyond the surface of this lifetime.

These sessions are not about escaping life, but about gaining perspective — insight that can bring greater self-acceptance, clarity, and ease in how you live and relate to the world.

BQH sessions are especially suited to those who are curious, reflective, and open to exploring symbolic or experiential memories that may reconnect them with knowledge they already carry.

Sessions are available online or in person, with online sessions being the most accessible option for many people.

If you’re unsure whether this kind of exploration is right for you, you’re welcome to get in touch and ask questions before booking.

Sometimes, understanding who you are beyond the role is what allows life to feel lighter and more aligned.
